5 Tips to Prepare for Summer Show Season

Hello April...but more importantly Hello Junior National Prep Season!

Yep it’s that time of year again.

At our house April 1st is the start of Jr National and State Fair preparation for our show projects. It's the first day the cooler gets turned on, the heifers are fed in feed pans, and that perfectly leveled bedding isn’t so level by the end of the day. From this day forward we also establish a consistent hair working routine while making sure we practice our showmanship skills. Of course everybody’s show preparation looks different, but here are our five most believed in tips to help you set a good routine and accomplish your goals.

  1. Determine the goals you want to accomplish with your project

  2. Set a time for feeding everyday and stay consistent

  3. Establish a daily hair care routine

  4. Practice showmanship with the same materials you use in the ring

  5. Follow up regularly with your feed nutritionist

Why Should I Feed a Supplement?

Some may ask why use a feed supplement? Others ask which supplements do I feed?

Supplements are being put on the market to fully benefit your animal but, also to simply make YOUR life easier. These products can promote characteristic changes as well as provide nutritional and essential vitamins to the animal’s overall health, all in one scoop.

How many times have you heard someone say “This heifer really needs to be pushed harder but, how can we do without blowing out her front end?”

Or…

“I would really like to incorporate Biotin to promote hair growth but, I am already feeding so many other products.”

Girly Girl is the answer! Instead of pushing condition in the front end of your show heifer let us help you prevent that. Girly Girl prevents the build-up of fat tissue, by promoting muscle growth, in the chest and neck region of a female. This is promotion occurs because of the high concentration of methionine and lysine to promote muscle formation over fat accumulation, keeping the fat out of areas we don’t want it.

When it comes to providing rumen and gut health in show animals, Girly Girl is one of the most densely packed products on the market. One of our key ingredients in Girly Girl is yeast which promotes efficient digestion.

Girly Girl also enhances the show animals appetite at home and while traveling. This is accomplished by yeast, vitamin B, and ethoxyquin working together to create a more efficient digestive system resulting in an increased appetite for the animal. Absolutely no one likes going to a show and animals going off feed. Girl Girly will eliminate that problem. In the four years since we have developed this product and been using it, we have never had one go off feed. So yes, you can ask yourself why feed this or you can get on board and let Girly Girl help take you to the backdrop.

To ensure your animal is getting all the right ingredients to meet your goals, always be sure to check the ingredients before purchasing the products. Even if you're not sure if the product is right for your project, contact your local feed store nutritionist.

Reminder: March 12-14 save $15 per bucket when you order at the IL Beef Expo.

Next Generation Product Offered Today

During the time of the creation of Girly Girl, there were few to no supplements on the market that were backed completely by proven science. Girly Girl is an amino acid-based product allowing it to provide solutions to an array of problems. A few major issues that Girly Girl targets are, improved muscle deposition over fat, increased hair growth, and hoof health, and stress reduction.

To promote lean muscle deposition over fat deposition, Girly Girl has both increased levels of rumen-protected amino acids, Lysine and Methionine. These two amino acids are two of the most limited amino acids in the average show animal’s diet, causing the animal to miss its true potential by a large margin. Both of these amino acids play a large role in any show cattle’s diet, which is why Girly Girl has higher levels of both amino acids than any other supplement on the market.

One of the hardest tasks with show cattle is to keep that full fluffy coat of hair on them all year long, especially in the summertime. This is why Girly Girl offers some of the highest levels of Biotin on the market. Besides increased hair growth Biotin also plays a large role in increasing the overall health of the hoof of the animal.

The last major point that Girly Girl solves is the overall stress reduction for the animal, thanks to the vitamin E that is formulated in Girly Girl. This is a complete game-changer when show season comes around the corner. Allowing cattle to have a consistent diet plays an important role in the show day appeal of an animal.
